Minneapolis’s largest lake, Bde Maka Ska, is known for recreational opportunities such as swimming, sailing, canoeing and kayaking. Its name means “White Earth Lake” in the Dakota language, and is pronounced “buh-DAY ma-KHA skah.” It was previously known as Lake Calhoun.
